A chance remark the other day caused me to ponder my life as an avid elastic band collector and reflect on progenitors of such behaviour.
In the past I have spent time, arguably more time than is good for a body, collecting pieces of wood that I thought were interesting.
One such you see above, garnered from a corner near the druids circle, just to the north of Hallett’s Mountain.
As I retrieved this little dancer from the bog I was transported back across time and space to a museum some time around 1979. I was reminded of Chocolat Dansant a print that I remain enchanted with, and hope to see in Albi once again some day.

That to me is incredible! So expressive, and yet so ancient... It bears out my theory that mankinds' technology has gotten more advanced, but our I.Q. is not much different than people living 10,000 years ago. I am always more impressed with ARTifacts than art...
No, it's not just you, beach-combing is one of our favourite activities over on Vancouver Island and we always manage to come back with special natural wooden sculptures to display in our garden.
My vision is not all that good. Did it grow like that or was it fashioned into the shape? Either way it is fascinating. Are you going to show us any more of your collection?
But what do you do with elastic bands?
elastic bands i don't understand, but wood - especially pieces of such delicacy - oh yes.

Elastic bands are very useful of course.
I've never thought to search for bits of wood that resemble art. I hoard enough as it is!

lori – Giacommeti, yes I can quite see what you mean.
buffalodickdy – I am sure you are right, humans don’t change much over thousands of years. All the mobile phones and trick gadgets don’t really alter what we are I guess.
The blonde – I know its not me really. I am sure there are loads of us out there, quietly taking over the world.
Sablonneuse – It just grew that way I think. The elastic band collection is far too complex to go in to lightly.

Jayne – hmmmm so does She Of The Town House. She has been hogging most of the space in my barn for nearly two years now.
DaveM – hey besides anything else, and I did find it a charming town, I want a chance for a crossing of the new bridge over the Tarn.
That is cool looking piece of wood. At first I thought it was man man not naturally made.
